Cull and Burials @ Bunk Bar

Cull and Burials played a killer show Tuesday night at Bunk Bar.  If you haven't had the opportunity to eat a sandwich AND see a show here, you are sadly missing out. There are only a few items on the menu (mostly yummy late-night munchies)  but what I have eaten is delicious, with an addition of a Tall Boy you have a complete meal. Cull played first and rocked our brains like usual. Incorporating elements of doom and black metal, as well as crust and goth. Burials was next up on the smoldering stage.  Cull is a hard act to follow but Burials face melting show pulled it off.  Burials churns out wild electricity with chugging monster guitars, crackling drums and demonic harmonies. It's awesome. Makes you want to jump around a room screaming "whooooo!" way more than you should on a Tuesday evening.

Weedeater, Zoroaster, Nether Regions 3/8/11

Rotture was rocking on Tuesday night as 3 very cool bands hit the stage. First band to begin the face melting procedure was Nether Regions  This quartet  was tripping out crazy guitar licks, ear pounding drums and some serious vocals. When bassist and singer Joe Wickstrom offers us a well-placed scream or grunt he was spot on, looking crazy and in control all at the same time. Marrying rock and psychedelic metal together, this band will get Portland on the map in the metal circle. Next on this killer line-up was Zoroaster, forty-five straight minutes guitar noodling, riffing, feedback, and noises are heard over hard-hitting drums and a pulse-pounding bass.

Zoroaster

This is comfort food for sludge metal fans and I for one am a fan! Last but definitely not least, Weedeater! At this point the five foot gap between me and the stage had shrunk to nothing and Rotture felt like a pressure cooker that can blow at anytime. With sweat flying off the stage Weedeater rocked hard from the get-go.

Raising the roof at 525 NE Couch!!

Ok, picture this, a very retro empty apartment bordered with a very cool dark mahogany wood.  On the walls are signature doodles of past tenants and friends.  Off in the corner of what I would call the dining room is Justin from Fist Fite sketching a cat on the wall and being very anal about it (you'll get it when you see the picture).  Through the thick cloud of cigarette smoke, people are filling up the apartment, saying hi to friends and chatting about the epic 2 hours about ready to unfold upon us.

The small tee-shirt shop on the ground level of the building was also having a party. Dan went down to check it out and take pictures while I stayed and held my spot. I forgot to tell you that in a few days this building is going to be demolished.  Jessica, the former tenant of this amazing apartment, decided we can save the demolition crew a few bucks by inviting two amazing metal bands and what seemed like a hundred of their biggest fans to tear the roof down, unless the floor gave out first!

Red Fang got the party started with a handful of their best songs.  There were so many people crammed up front that I could feel the sweat fling off of Bryan and Aaron.  I do have to make a note that Bryan had great smelling hair!  I had expected different, but with the first fling of his hair I got a light smell of a fruity shampoo.  A nice break from all the cigarette smoke and PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) breath. These guys were amazing!  The crowd was insanely behaved compared to the past Red Fang shows.  But just as I suspected they closed their set with the most enjoyed song "Prehistoric Dog."  Of course the crowd went CRAZY!

Fist Fite was the next and final band to put a stamp on the awesomeness of this night. They are another local band who I have had the pleasure of seeing many times and with whom I have found myself stranded at the bottom of an empty pool in pitch dark. I'd have to say and Dan might agree with me that Fist Fite did the most superb job ever.  I totally loved the mini-mosh pit behind me that was keeping the crowd rolling the whole time.  But it all ended with the phrase that I haven't heard since high school "The cops are here!" This epic house party came to an end.  So to close out the weekend, thank you Jessica, Red Fang, Fist Fite, The Dirty Digits, The Empty, Gorilla Monsoon, Hasbeen Design Company and thank you floor for not caving in!

Rabbits CD Release Show @ Branx Feb 19, 2011

Epic Show!!!  Rabbits had their cd release show at Branx on Saturday and we all have been waiting for this.  The Albany OR natives, Norska, started the shindig off with a bang and shredded up Portland with crazy guitar and bass licks. If you ever get the chance to check them out, DO IT!

Rabbits played next and what can I say, INSANE!!! They played the entire new album "Lower Forms" which includes "Burn, Sun, Burn," "A Tale of Tales," "We Beat," "Noise to Share," "Duck, the Pigs," "Invisibugs," "The Flow Below," "Weight Here," "No Depth," and "Rot."

Hailing from the cloudy skies of Eugene OR, Yob finished off the night with memorizing and doomy lullabys that gave me goosebumps. Definitely another amazing band to keep your eye on! The whole night was a memorable experience and everyone who showed up had the best time.

This was our first time at Branx since they opened the back half of the floor. There is a lot of space now to float around and a couple of bars for your drinking pleasure.

Hello Portland!

The first thing I have to say is where else can you go out on a Sunday night at 8pm and see a killer show at the spur of the moment then have a ton of great food choices afterwards? Portland!!  The music scene here is amazing.  It doesn't matter what kind of music you like, Portland has it.

For that reason, my husband and I started a web site called TheJamZone. Our quest is to get you people to check out these awesome local bands, the root of Portland. TheJamZone consists of kick-ass photos of bands like, Rabbits, Fist Fite, Red Fang, Danava and shit load more .

The purpose of this blog is to let you guys know when killer bands are playing and where. After the show I'll post how the show rocked and other stuff.  If your at any of the shows please say hi!

Tonight 02/17/2012 at the Know is Cull (talk about kick ass), Age of Collapse and Squalora.  Cull hasn't played since November so they are rested and ready to melt your face off. I'll be back tomorrow to tell you how the show went.
